One moment, five posts: how to repurpose a single thing that happened today
Most owners think their problem is a shortage of ideas. It is almost never that. Something worth sharing happens in every business every day; the problem is that it is used once, on one platform, in one format, and then forgotten.
Repurposing is the habit of squeezing a moment properly. Here is how one real-sounding moment becomes a week of posts across five formats.
The moment
A plumber finishes a job in a 1970s bathroom. Leaky for years, now watertight and bright. She takes one photo before and one after, and records a nine-second voice note in the van: “That one was a mess. The previous fitter had used the wrong sealant and it had been quietly rotting the floor for a decade. Owner cried when she saw it done.”
That is the whole raw material. Two photos, nine seconds of audio. Let’s get five posts out of it.
1. The photo post (Instagram, Facebook)
The obvious one, and still the best performer for trades, salons, cafés and shops: before and after.
Before: a 1970s bathroom that had been quietly rotting its own floor for ten years. After: watertight, bright, and the owner’s face said it all. Wrong sealant is a slow disaster. If your bathroom has “always been a bit damp”, send us a photo.
Notice the structure: what it was, what it is now, the lesson, and a soft ask. Keep the hashtags to three or four specific ones. Nobody searches #plumbinglife.
2. The carousel (Instagram, LinkedIn)
A carousel turns the same moment into a mini story people swipe through. Five slides is plenty:
- “The bathroom that rotted its own floor” (the hook, on the before photo)
- What we found (wrong sealant, damp under the tiles)
- Why it happens (a cheap shortcut nobody sees for a decade)
- What we did (strip, dry, reseal, retile)
- The after (the second photo, with “Book a damp check” as the final line)
Carousels earn saves, and saves are one of the strongest signals a platform has that your content is worth showing to more people.
3. The quote card (Instagram, Pinterest, Threads)
Pull the line that would make someone stop:
“Wrong sealant is a slow disaster. You will not notice for ten years.”
Put it on a plain card in your colours with your business name small at the bottom. Quote cards need no photo, no face and no editing, which makes them the format that keeps a streak alive on a bad week.
4. The short video storyboard (TikTok, Reels, Shorts)
You do not need to have filmed anything cinematic. A fifteen-second cut of what you already have works:
- 0–3s: the before photo, on-screen text: “Ten years of damp. Here is why.”
- 3–9s: the voice note plays over a slow zoom on the before photo.
- 9–13s: cut to the after photo. Text: “Fixed properly, once.”
- 13–15s: your logo and “Send us a photo of your bathroom”.
A storyboard like this takes a couple of minutes to assemble in any phone editor, and the voice note gives it a real human voice without you having to perform to camera.
5. The text story (LinkedIn, X, Bluesky)
Trades on LinkedIn? Yes: landlords, letting agents and property managers live there. Tell the moment as a lesson:
We stripped a bathroom this week that had been rotting its own floor for ten years. The cause was a tube of the wrong sealant, a saving of about four pounds. The repair cost a good deal more than four pounds. Cheap shortcuts in wet rooms do not fail loudly. They fail slowly, and then all at once.
Same moment, completely different register. On X and Bluesky, cut it to the first two sentences and the last one.
The rule: moments are reusable, posts are not
Treat every moment as a small library rather than a single post. One capture, kept in a journal, can be:
- a photo post the day it happens
- a carousel the following week
- a quote card on a day you have nothing
- a storyboard when you want reach
- a story on the platform where your buyers are
This is why Gruuv saves the moment first and writes afterwards. Any journal moment can be turned into a new post in a new format whenever you like, and the tweak chips (Make it a carousel, Quote card, Video, New take) are there precisely so one moment can live five lives.
A gentle warning
Repurposing is not reposting. The same caption on five platforms at the same hour looks like automation, because it is. Each format above has its own shape and its own reason to exist. The moment is shared; the post is not.
Get into the habit and you will stop looking for ideas entirely. You will start noticing moments, which is a far more pleasant way to run a business.
